As part of your child’s Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education programme, Year 5 all received First Aid training from Tumbles and Grumbles. The children thoroughly enjoyed their respective training sessions and learned basic first aid, how to conduct CPR, develop an understanding of using a defibrillator and who to contact in an emergency.
Some children in Reception were lucky enough to be chosen to visit the Urban Factory. We were so excited as this was our first school trip! We took part in lots of gymnastic activities and our teachers were so amazed at how much confidence we demonstrated.

Six eager Year 5 children helped Mrs Mackay transform a large planter in the school garden. The planter was overgrown and full of weeds which were cleared and the soil turned over and raked. Each child was allocated a section of the planter which was marked out. They were given either seeds for vegetables such as radishes, spinach or seed potatoes to plant and a marker to signpost what had been planted. The children involved are now on a rota to ensure the seeds are regularly watered. We hope to see some vegetables growing in our school garden soon.
There will be navy hoodies available to order for the children leaving Y6 in July. The school logo will be on the front and names will be placed in the shape of the year on the reverse.

4.3.21 Happy World Book Day to you all!
Today is extra special because we are celebrating our love of books with children all over the world. We would have loved for you all to be in school with us, so instead, we are bringing World Book Day celebrations to you.
Did you hear Mrs Douglas on BBC Newcastle Radio this morning? She was talking about what World Book Day is like this year in school and at home! Have a listen here!
Have you heard the first ever World Book day song by MC Grammar?? How many stories can you spot in the song?
We have put together a collection of videos of staff from across the school sharing their favourite books. Get yourselves snuggled up, relax and choose a staff member to read you a story from the comfort of your own home. You could even listen to your teacher reading you a bedtime story.
It won’t be long until you are back in school and enjoying story time in class with your friends. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy sharing some of our favourite stories at home.
Have a great World Book Day!
Well done to our Y6 children in school, who came first out of 49 teams this week in an Online Safety Quiz.
Coinciding with Online Safety Day 2021,the ICT in Schools team at The Word hosted an interactive quiz. Children from across Years 2-6 from throughout the borough took part and all Mortimer teams scored extremely well.
Big shout out to our Year 2 Technical Tots Team, who came 8th in the whole authority.
At Mortimer Primary your child’s safety on the internet is very important to us which is why we have a trained member of staff who delivers the KidSafe UK programme from EYFS through to Y6. The KidSafe UK program’s philosophy is that an empowered child grows up to be a powerful, healthy adult. Their mission is to teach personal safety to children and their grown-ups to build strong, resilient families and safer communities. Alongside this program we also have a comprehensive PSHE curriculum which also addresses internet safety.
We are very proud to see our pupils becoming such strong, confident and most importantly safe, online ambassadors!
