Climate Change A Week of Action 2021

4th July 2021A Stelling

All of the children in school this week have had a fantastic time learning about different aspects of climate change.

EYFS learned about litter and plastic pollution and our plastic bottle top collage is under way. Nursery used litter pickers to safely collect some litter as well as using the water tray to recreate how plastic can affect our sea wildlife. Reception produced some fabulous work on plastic pollution as well as learning a song which we are sure many parents will have heard over the course of the week!
KS1 looked at energy saving and the little tasks we can do to save energy. They had an assembly on Climate Change and read Switch and the Energy Saver. Plastic straws were exchanged for paper ones in one classroom and the children made energy saving posters. Year 2 were each given a job to do such as ensuring the lights were switched off when a room was not in use.
Years 3/4 looked at recycling and are very knowledgeable about what the different recycling symbols mean. They sorted materials into groups and produced posters all around recycling.
Years 5/6 looked at the Greenhouse Effect. Year 5 had an assembly on what this is and some carried out an experiment to demonstrate how the earth is heating up. Other children visited the beach where they carried out a session on rock pooling. This involved a timed survey of the sea creatures in our local area to see how populated our beaches are.
All of the children have worked incredibly hard this week and have learned a lot about climate change. We think their work is incredible.

A very special visitor

18th June 2021A Stelling

Reception had another special visitor today. It was our School Nurse! She told us all about the job she does and even brought in some of the equipment she uses.  We also talked about how to keep our bodies strong and healthy. We met Terry the tooth and talked about why it is important to keep our teeth clean. The children answered and asked some fantastic questions.

Thank You!

10th June 2021A Stelling

Another donation received this time from a Year 6 parent. Our outdoor area is now very well stocked with a variety of different plants and vegetables. We are particularly looking forward to seeing the Teddy Bear Sunflower grow. Once again the Year 5 monitors will take good care on them. Many thanks from us.

9th June 2021A Stelling
We were delighted to receive some new additions to our outdoor area. The Year 5 children who care for our vegetable patch let out an audible, “Ooooh!” when they were told that we had a donation of some bell peppers and chilli peppers.
With sincere thanks to the parent of one of our Year 1 pupils who donated the plants. Our Year 5 garden monitors will take good care of them

Special Visitors to Reception

6th June 2021A Stelling

Reception had some special visitors. The local community police officers came to talk to the children. They told us the types of jobs police officers do and how they help keep us safe. We also talked about how to alert a police officer when we need them. We were so excited when we tried on some of the police uniform. The children answered and asked some great questions!
