31.8.20

31st August 2020Mr Bennett

31.8.20
Happy bank holiday everyone.

We know you are all anxious to hear about how school will reopen. Senior leaders are meeting on Tuesday to discuss the final few items to our reopening in light of further new guidance from the government.
We will then release information to help you and your child prepare for returning to school next week.

We appreciate you will all have individual concerns and questions, from attendance to school dinners and everything in between. Hopefully we will answer the majority in our information.

Enjoy the sunshine and we will be in touch soon.

24.8.20 – Good Morning

24th August 2020Mr Bennett

24.8.20

Good Morning!
I hope everyone is well and is enjoying the summer.
We are still on course to reopen on Monday 7th September to all pupils!
Of course there will be some changes to the ‘normal’ and we will make these clear before school begins.
Government medical advisors have spoken over the last few days about schools being safe. We will continue to work within the guidance issued to make sure staff and pupils are looked after.
We are looking forward to seeing you all again and we will update more throughout the next two weeks.

To all the parents and pupils of Mortimer.
Thank you so much for working with us as the world went crazy. It hasn’t been easy, but we have tried to help as much as we can.
We have appreciated every positive message and Like.
My first 10 months at Mortimer have been a baptism of fire like no other. I wont be on Facebook or our website for a little while, but we will be in touch nearer September as we look to reopen fully to all pupils.
Please look after yourselves and your families over the summer holidays.
I hope you like my little poem…

Looking for a reason to bake a cake?

10th July 2020Mr Bennett
Looking for a reason to bake a cake?
From Deborah Rodenby – Youth Liaison Officer at Nexus
In celebration of Metro’s 40th anniversary which takes place on Tuesday 11 August, we would love your pupils to be involved as part of our Birthday celebrations.
What is a birthday without a very special birthday cake.  We would love your pupils to design and make a birthday cake, any cake and the best bit is they get to eat it.
If they could send their photos or videos of their cakes to myself, so that we can share all of their lovely designs on social media, as part of our birthday celebrations.
Deborah Rodenby [email protected] closing date 31st July.
I hope they enjoy their cakes.
Kind regards
Deborah

8.7.20 Update

8th July 2020Mr Bennett
8.7.20 Update
Thank you for helping make Phase Three happen this week. Key worker parents have been brilliant using the ramp and adjusting to the new times. Thank you parents for moving off site as quickly as possible. All children have quickly settled in and have enjoyed some time with their teacher and class mates. Next week sees years 2 and 4 return for their two days.
There are just a few things to update you on this week.
Reports
Our new look reports are being posted out this week. We do explain what the reports cover, but please bear in mind that they only focus on your child’s year till the 20th March.
Please complete the paper based receipt or alternatively use the electronic form, which will be shared later in the week, to let us know you have received your child’s report.
Your child’s new class teacher, for next year, will also be noted on the report receipt.
Free School Meal Vouchers
Vouchers for the summer holidays have been ordered as one batch worth 6 weeks and one batch worth 1 week, both will go out on 13th July (you will also have your normal week voucher that date too). So basically you will have 3 lots of voucher codes to redeem.
Could all parents redeem their codes as soon as they receive them and if they have any problems to email the school as soon as possible so this can be sorted before the end of term.
Year 6 – Leavers Day
The final week for year 6 offers a chance to attend for a day with the whole class (split into smaller groups) and take part in their leavers assembly. Children can stay for the whole day (the majority are) or leave after the assembly (a parent will need to collect).
Some things to note about the final day:
· We will keep the same times 9:10 on the yard with a 3:30 finish.
· Children can bring their own picnic (no sharing items) to enjoy during the day.
6RD – Monday 13th July
6FH – Tuesday 14th July
6EM – Wednesday 15th July
If you haven’t signed up yet, you can by using the following form.
https://forms.gle/D4JgropJfP9NrKDU6
Year 6 Music
Please return clarinets, flutes, violins or cellos to the school.
If children are planning to continue lessons in Y7 their instrumental teacher will meet up with them at the beginning of term.
Could all tutor books be returned too, including Abracadabra recorder books.
September 2020
With new guidance to digest, we are busy working on our plans for opening in September. We will communicate these with you when possible. We will continue to update you via our website news and Facebook group.
Our latest newsletter is being given to pupils in school and will also be shared electronically soon.
Reminder
School is closed to all pupils Friday 10th and 17th July. There is no Key Worker care on these days.

Thank you for your continuing support.

1.7.20 Update of pupil places

1st July 2020Mr Bennett

1.7.20 Update of pupil places

Dear all,
thanks for your help in signing up for the different routes of care. It has been a little tricky to place everyone but we are nearly there.
Tomorrow (Thursday 2nd)
Texts will be sent to:

Priority Years

    • Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 parents.
    • Your text will list which group your child is in for the final two weeks (just next week for year 6).
    • For most this will be the same as you have accessed.
    • New returners will be placed where possible.
  • Start and finish times may change and we will explain these this week.

Phase Three Return

  • Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 parents.
  • Your text will list which group your child is in for your two days.
  • Group 1 is Monday & Tuesday. Group 2 is Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Years 3 and 5 wb 6th July only
  • Years 2 and 4 wb 13th July only
  • We have tried to keep siblings (who are in priority years) on similar days but this may not always have been possible.
  • Children have been grouped by their teacher and in friendship groups.
  • Details of uniform, start and finish times etc will be shared this week.

Key workers

  • Please assume that your request has been accepted and your child can attend the key workers provision for the days needed.
  • If you need to confirm your days then speak to me when dropping off or picking up.
  • You won’t receive a text as the take up is so varied.
  • We will have to tweak our system slightly for the last two weeks with so many more pupils in and we will let you know these this week.
Thanks for your support. I appreciate that things are difficult to follow but we will soon be sorted for the final two weeks in school.
