Warn & Inform – 4.11.21
Dear Parents,

We have been advised that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within year 6 Mrs Mackay’s class (6KM). NHS test and trace have been in contact with individuals who have been identified as a close contact to let them know if they are legally required to self-isolate, and to provide further advice.

The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) or tests positive for COVID-19

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of:

  • new continuous cough and/or
  • high temperature and/or
  • a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

If your child does develop symptoms, they should get a PCR test and remain at home at least until the result is known. Get a free PCR test to check if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). if positive, the child should isolate until at least 10 days after their symptoms appeared.

If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.

If your child has a positive test result but does not have symptoms they should stay at home and self-isolate for 10 days from the date the positive test was taken. This isolation period will be extended if they go on to develop symptoms by counting 10 full days from the day following their symptom onset

Instructions for people who live in the same household as someone with COVID-19

From 16 August, you will not be required to self-isolate if you are a contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and any of the following apply:

  • you are fully vaccinated (with an MHRA approved COVID-19 vaccine in the UK, and at least 14 days have passed since you received the vaccine.
  • you are below the age of 18 years 6 months
  • you have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
  • you are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons

NHS Test and Trace will contact you to let you know that you have been identified as a contact and check whether you are legally required to self-isolate. Even if you do not have symptoms, you will be advised to have a PCR test as soon as possible.

Even if you are vaccinated, you can still be infected with COVID-19 and pass it on to others. If you are identified as a contact of someone with COVID-19 but you are not required to self-isolate, you can help protect others by

  • limiting close contact with other people outside your household, especially in enclosed spaces
  • wearing a face covering in enclosed spaces and where you are unable to maintain social distancing
  • limiting contact with anyone who is clinically extremely vulnerable
  • taking part in regular LFD testing

You should follow this advice while the person in your household with COVID-19 is self-isolating. Those who are clinically extremely vulnerable should be supported to minimise their contact with other people in the household during this period, regardless of whether others have symptoms or not.

You may be eligible for a Test and Trace Support Payment or other help.  Please visit https://www.southtyneside.gov.uk/article/70840/Test-and-Trace-Support-Payment for more details.

COVID19 Update

COVID19 Update – 1.11.21
Dear parents/carers,

Important Update Regarding COVID19

As a school, we have worked tirelessly to return our school back to a normal way of working for all pupils, however this is not the information we wish to be sharing on the first day back.

Unfortunately, the borough has seen an increase in infections and school age children have been the main contributory factor to the rate of COVID19 in recent weeks.

The local authority and public health has recommended several temporary measures for schools to reduce transmission of COVID19.

We therefore need to make you aware of the following:

Face coverings – from tomorrow, staff will be asked to wear face coverings when moving around school. We also ask parents/carers to wear a face covering when dropping off or collecting children, also if you need to speak to the office or any staff member.

Hygiene – we will again focus attention on handwashing throughout the day and at key points.

Further changes to our school day, may be necessary, following a meeting with the local authority tomorrow. Any changes will be reviewed in two weeks’ time. We will update you ASAP.

Current Impact

We have a packed schedule planned as we head towards Christmas. Some events may need to be changed, rearranged or cancelled. Many changes will be out of our hands, but where possible, and if safe, we will continue to provide our enhanced curriculum activities. We will update you as soon as possible.

2/11/21 (Tuesdays) – After School Choir with Miss Middleton – CANCELLED until further notice

3/11/21 – House Captain’s Climate Change Film Visit – CANCELLED no alternative date given

4/11/21 – Y5/6 Cross Country – CANCELLED no alternative date given

Due to the current situation, we will not be introducing any additional school clubs at this time. We will review this as and when we are able.

Fête française!

26th October 2021Mr Bennett

Fête française! French party!

On Friday Miss Beattie hosted a KS2 French party. The children were invited along as they had been working really hard in French lessons this half term. The children had the opportunity to indulge in some French cuisine: french fries, pain au chocolat, croissant, crepes, baguette, brie and lots of them even tried snails!!! Everyone had an excellent time and Mademoiselle Beattie is already excited to host the next one!

Bon travail a tous!

Car Park Update

8th October 2021Mr Bennett

For the past five weeks we have trialled the closure of the car park and then opened the turning circle on a morning only.

It has been decided in the interests of safety to close the car park and turning circle at the start and end of the day. No vehicles will be allowed access to the school grounds between 8:20-9:00 and 2:15-3:45.

We have taken feedback from multiple stakeholders, including you the parents.

81% of parents agreed that the school site is safer with no vehicle access.

75% of parents agreed that the car park should remain closed.

This preventative measure will ensure the safety of all children in close proximity to the school. The risk of allowing cars access outweigh the benefits.

We recognise that this will not be in everyone’s favour, but encourage parents to consider their parking choices in respect of safety and the local residents.

Thank you for your support

Secondary Admissions – 4.10.21
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6 Pupils                                      4 October 2021

Admission to Secondary School in September 2022

May I remind you that the closing date for returning your application form for your child to transfer into Secondary School next year is Monday 1 November 2021 at 4.30pm.

The easiest way to apply for your preferred school(s) is online by logging onto the Council web site at www.southtyneside.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

If you apply online, you will be notified on Tuesday 1 March 2022 our ‘offer day’ via your e-mail account.

Please be reminded that you must make a note of the email address that you use when applying as this will be the email address that will be used to send notification of your school offer.

Parents are also reminded that if they change address following the submission of an application form that they must notify us of this change in writing either by email to [email protected] or by post to the School Admissions Team, Town Hall and Civic Offices, South Shields, NE33 2RL. Change of addresses must reach us by Tuesday 4 January 2022. If you do not provide us with a change of address by this date, your new address will not be taken into account when allocating places.

If you have not applied online, you will receive a letter which is sent in the second class post on offer day.

If you do not have access to a computer you can obtain a hard copy of the application form by contacting the School Admissions Team on telephone numbers 0191 424 7767 or 0191 424 7706.

Failure to return or returning your application form late will reduce the chance of your child gaining a place at your preferred school.

Please be reminded, it is your responsibility to ensure your application form is completed and received by the deadline date of Monday 1 November 2021 at 4.30pm.

This is a generic message to all parents so if you have already applied for your child’s school place please ignore this letter.

Yours sincerely

Christine Henderson
