Nursey Update – 16.1.22
Dear all,
we are extremely disappointed to send this message, however we now have four members of our nursery team absent with COVID19.
Alongside the high number of staff absence across our school, we are now unable to offer a full nursery program.
To ensure we meet appropriate numbers for staff, we will be closing nursery to morning and afternoon only groups.
At the moment, we are still able to open for 30 hour pupils only, however if you wish to make alternative arrangements for your child then please do so. A phone call to the school office would be appreciated.
This is the last action we would want to take and is it not taken lightly. We await staff returning and we will keep you up to date on how long this impact will last.
Thank you for your support

COVID19 Update

COVID19 Update – 13.1.22

Dear all,

We feel it only correct to update you at this current time. Since returning to school last week we have been faced with unprecedented staff absence due to, in large, COVID19. The task since last Sunday has been to keep every class open and continue pupil’s education. With the number of teaching staff absent, many classes have been taught by different teachers including senior leaders.

Our staff have been fantastic in helping ensure that every class has a teacher who is well known to the school. This has kept disruptions to a minimum. However, we are now seeing increasing numbers of pupils test positive for COVID. Please continue to watch for key symptoms of COVID19.

Staff absence is a daily issue, but we continue to work to avoid closing any classes or year groups. This will remain the absolute last choice.

Thank you for your support and understanding at this challenging time.

Yr6 Kooth Assembly – 13.1.22
Mortimer Primary School have been asked to share the following information with all of our Y6 parents/carers. On Tuesday 18th January 2021 a member of the Kooth team will be visiting school to introduce the service to our Y6 children in an assembly. If you have any questions about the service, please use the link provided below.

Dear Parents/ Carers & Guardians,

XenZone would like to provide you with information on our free online counselling and support service, Kooth, which is now available in South Tyneside for young people aged 10-25 years.

Accredited by the BACP and a trusted delivery partner of the NHS, Kooth is a transformational digital mental health support service for young people.

As a service, fully commissioned by South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group in South Tyneside, Kooth.com is a safe, confidential and non-stigmatising way for young people aged 10-25 years to receive advice, support and easy access to an online community of peers and a team of experienced counsellors.

The service is staffed by fully trained and qualified counsellors who are available until 10pm each night, 365 days per year. Kooth provides a much needed out of hours’ service, making it a powerful early-intervention/prevention and treatment resource which young people are keen to use. More than 95% of end of session questionnaires show young people would recommend Kooth to a friend.

Kooth provides young people with instant access to emotional and wellbeing advice incorporating self-help articles and online tools such as a mood tracker, as well as professional online therapy and pre-moderated peer-to-peer forums. On Kooth, young people can learn effective coping strategies to manage day to day life and with no thresholds, Kooth is easily accessible for all young people to use.

6RD & 3JDo Update – 5.1.22
Dear parents/carers,

Changes affecting classes 6RD & 3JDo

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have found it necessary to make some short term changes to 6RD & 3JDo.

Mrs Douglas (6RD) is currently absent from work and as of yet we are unable to predict at what point she will return this year. We are sure that you will join us in wishing her a speedy return. To move forward in the strongest position, Mr Douglas will lead class 6RD in the short term, as he knows the class well having already taught a large majority of them. Our own Miss Reid will step in as the lead teacher of 3JDo.

We sincerely hope that these changes are short term and we will continue to monitor and review them on a regular basis. We are in the fortunate position to be able to use our own staff and not look to outside agencies for staffing solutions.

We will continue to keep you updated of any changes and are happy to answer any questions or queries you may have in the meantime.

Thank you for your support

Mrs G Cunningham
