| Book Fair Update – 28.2.22 |
|
Dear all
This week, we arranged to host a Scholastic book fair. Unfortunately, we have been let down and have been sent an extremely limited number of books to sell. We are so disappointed that the children won’t get the typical book fair experience and unfortunately, we are going to have to cancel our morning book fairs for Nursery and Reception parents.
However, we would still like to give pupils the chance to browse the selection on offer as every book sold will raise money for us to purchase books for school. If there is a book your child likes the look of, they may come home with a ‘wishlist’ which you can use to pay for the book online, if you wish to order it. Please return all wishlists back to school, so we can submit the order on your behalf.
Thank you for your support.

Hello all,
Christmas is now a distant memory and lighter nights are rolling in (however so are the storms!). Its been a challenging half term due to COVID and staff absence but we have made it through to the other end! Our staff have been amazing, wearing lots of different hats to keep everything going.
We are now seeing an increase in events outside of school with pupils now getting more opportunities to attend sport and arts activities. Fingers crossed this only continues to grow. We have also been able to welcome parents back into school for assemblies, possibly 2 years since the last! We hope you’ve enjoyed this little bit of normal…
We close today for half term and will reopen on Monday 28th February.
Stay safe and thanks for your continued support.

SEND Travel Training
South Tyneside Council want to make sure that young people are able to live as independently as possible. This includes being able to travel safely to and from their school/setting as well as visiting and meeting their friends by themselves, using different ways of getting there including walking, cycling or going on a bus. They are exploring different models of Independent Travel Training and would like to capture the views of parents, pupils and staff within schools to inform future commissioning plans. More great news!
Mortimer Primary School is now a National Online Safety Certified School
Mortimer Primary School has successfully completed a comprehensive online safety training programme demonstrating its commitment to keeping children and young people safe online. We have received a National Online Safety Certified School Accreditation for its whole school community approach to protecting children in the online world. Its CPD accredited courses and educational resources support UK schools in educating the whole school community in online safety– including all senior leaders, teachers, all school staff and parents – on how to make the internet a safer place for children. The online world is posing an ever-increasing risk to children, and it is important that schools, parents and carers work together to take an active role in teaching children about online dangers. Learning how to act safely when using the internet is an incredibly important part of safeguarding our children. We are now able to share a platform for families to access and gain up to date, appropriate and expert advice. | Y5 Artwork Display – 31.1.22 |
|
Dear all,
Year 5 have been coming up with their own ideas about what we’re missing in the world and seeing their chosen idea through to a final design.
Challenged by local-born artist and inventor Dominic Wilcox, children’s artwork and first names can be sent to https://www.littleinventors.
Please let the school know if you have any objections/questions about your child’s work being displayed in this way. If you are happy for this to go ahead, we will let you know when your child’s work has been uploaded so you can see their creative designs for yourself.
Many thanks

The money you raise could support Childline, the confidential helpline for children, whatever difficulty they’re facing. Or it could support services reach more schools with the Speak out. Stay safe. programme – giving children the knowledge and confidence to speak out about anything that’s worrying them, including abuse, so they can get the help they need. |
