Many thanks

| 1. Funerama
On Friday 15th July we will be running our Funerama spectacular event! This will run straight after school with raffles, books, preloved items, games to play, hot dogs, sweet treats, drinks and punch balloons! We ask that parents collect all of their children and then enter via the KS1 yard. The KS2 gate will be exit only. On entering the KS1 yard, follow around the back of school, past the trim trail and onto the top of the KS2 yard. There is no entry fee this year, but we would appreciate children having change at hand. Many of our year 6 children will be on transition but are warmly welcomed to attend. PARENT REQUEST – we kindly ask for any donations of toys, children’s books, bric-a-brac and shop bought pre wrapped cakes for us to sell. Please bring any donations to the school office and a huge thank you in advance. |
| 2. School and Facebook
We would like to update you all on the Facebook group titled – Mortimer Primary Parents Group. The group is an unofficial group with no links or ties to the school. The administrators have kindly responded to our request to ensure there is no confusion in being linked to the school and we appreciate the changes made. We do have a Facebook presence, but have moved our communications to being direct to parents via email, texts and via our website. We remove commenting options from our Facebook posts, as we do not monitor the account. We are always willing to speak to parents and carers about any concerns or queries you may have. We believe we are extremely approachable and want to work with parents to better their child’s experience and education with us. You can contact us directly by: o Speaking to your child’s class teacher at the end of a day. o Phone: 0191 455 4504 o Email: [email protected] o Find answers at www.mortimerprimary.co.uk |

The children in Year 5 and 6 have taken part in two cricket competitions. One was mixed teams and the other was a girls only event. The children were excellent representatives and did very well. The girls did very well coming second in their event.
All of our Year 5 have recently completed an excellent morning learning about basic first aid. This included bandages, placing each other in the recovery position and CPR. The children were then shown how to dissect a lamb’s heart before doing it themselves. The sessions support the statutory requirement that children learn about First Aid through our PSHE programme of study and are delivered through the Tumbles and Grumbles organisation.
As the school takes part in a number of initiatives in association with Sport England which support our status as a Healthy School they very kindly gifted us with a very generous package of free PE equipment.

| Sun Cream Update – 10.7.22 |
| Dear parents/carers,
Following further information becoming available, we wish to update you on sun cream use in school.
We have had positive feedback regarding the Soltan Kids Protect & Moisterise Suncare rollon SPF50+, which is available from Boots. We ask that parents watch for the ingredient Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil which is almond oil and is found in some products such as Nivea. We also highly recommend that pupils bring and wear a suitable sun hat when outside and drink water throughout the day. |

Dear all,
We are delighted to announce that Mrs Miller’s lunchtime groups have been working very hard on the PLAS-tastic ‘Keep Our Sea Plastic Free’ display outside of the hall.
The display was entered into a Sea Life Sea Savers competition to promote the reduction of plastic pollution and won first place!
As our prize, we have now adopted two green sea turtles – Lulu & Gulliver who are around 83 years old. They live at the Sea Life Centre in Brighton. They are originally from America and came via London Zoo. Lulu weighs an incredible 28 stone and they both love eating broccoli and leeks!
A huge thank you to everyone who donated bottle tops and to Mrs Miller and her group! Great work everyone!

Well done to 16 of our year 3 and 4 pupils, who represented our school at the South Tyneside School Sport Network Y3/4 Countdown Cricket Festival 2022.
We took a Y3 team and a Y4 team, both were very strong on the day!
The Y3 team won three out of four of their matches. Y4 won all four of their matches.
The overall winner for the tournament was our Y4 team with a huge 394 runs over the four matches on the day.
Lots of talented cricketers in both teams, who we hope may go on to represent our school in years to come. As always our pupils were fantastic ambassadors for our school and displayed fantastic sportsmanship and manners.
Well done!
