20.10.20 Discounted Chromebook Offer

20th October 2020Mr Bennett

20.10.20 Discounted Chromebook Offer

We are now able to bring you a time limited offer to purchase a discounted Chromebook from an educational supplier via the school.
Chromebooks are very much like laptops but smaller versions and run Google’s own software. They are highly portable and work well with the internet!
The time window is very short so please read the letter (attached and coming home with pupils tomorrow).
We have tried to make this as easy as possible for both parents and the school. Mortimer Primary will not make any profit from this offer. We are simply responding to the expressions of interest we’ve had.
Please read the letter carefully as we will be operating via the terms and conditions set out, which must be agreed on ordering.

We hope this offer is useful.

Our latest news update as sent with pupils tonight.
No sooner had it been copied for the school but we were then sent an updated version of the ‘COVID19 Absence-A quick guide for parents/carers table’. I have identified the section in red which has been updated.
Have a great weekend and we look forward to having every year group open again fully on Monday!

15.10.20: Absence&COVID19: A guide for parents

Schools throughout the authority have been receiving a number of COVID queries from parents. The main queries are when children should stay off and when can they return to school. Attached is a table which breaks down the information easier.
Schools are also receiving queries around testing. Tests are reserved for people who have COVID-19 symptoms.
Advice on symptoms, self-isolating and more can be found at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

14.10.20 Show Racism the Red Card

14th October 2020Mr Bennett

14.10.20 Show Racism the Red Card

We will be highlighting racism through the October Show Racism the Red Card annual Wear Red Day!
The 6th annual Wear Red Day will take place across England, Wales and Scotland on Friday 16th October 2020.
Pupils can add a dash of red to their normal uniform – a red top, red hair accessories or even a red shoe or two if your child wants to.
Again we are not asking for donations but will pass on any that are handed in.

11.10.20 Reception parents – Drop off

11th October 2020Mr Bennett
11.10.20 Reception parents – Drop off
Please can we ask that parents move away from the gate and Reception class entrance once your child is safely with the school staff.
We are operating a staggered drop off 8:45-8:55 to avoid large crowds. Parents waiting to see their child go into school are making the area difficult to access for others and to allow social distancing.
Thank you for your continuing support.

8.10.20 #HelloYellow Day

8th October 2020Mr Bennett

8.10.20 #HelloYellow Day

At a time when it’s needed most, tomorrow (9.10.20) we come together for #HelloYellow to support young people’s mental health on World Mental Health Day.
We know the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils is incredibly important. We also know this is a stressful time and families are juggling a lot right now.
So on Friday, add some yellow to your uniform (if you want to) and let’s brighten the place up! Something in your hair, change your top or even some yellow shoes.
*Please note that this is not a non-uniform day.
We are not asking for any donations whilst the current challenges of COVID19 remain.

7.10.20 COVID19 Update

7th October 2020Mr Bennett

7.10.20

Dear parents and carers,
As many of you will be aware, the current COVID situation of the school was reported via the Newcastle Chronicle last night. We were aware of this and cooperated fully with the information that was requested. South Tyneside Local Authority were also part of the process.
We are focused on the challenge in front of us and continue to work closely with Public Health Advisors to ensure our procedures and practice are as safe as they can be. Our Risk Assessment remains up to date and on our website. We hope we are through the worst of this in school. Several staff have now returned fit and well whilst Reception pupils have already returned and pupils from Years 1 and 4 next Monday.
Thank you for your continuing support through these unprecedented times.

6.10.20 Nasal Flu Immunisation

6th October 2020Mr Bennett

6.10.20 Nasal Flu Immunisation

Pupils (where consent was given) have been vaccinated today with Fluenz Tetra nasal spray.
Most children are usually fine after the vaccination, however occasional side effects of this can be a headache, a runny nose, general tiredness or some loss of appetite.
The vaccine is absorbed quickly so there is no need to worry that it hasn’t worked even if you child sneezes immediately after having the spray.
If you require any further information or advice please contact the Community Immunisation Team on 0191 402 8179, NHS 111 or your GP.
For those children not in school today, parents should contact the above number to find details of their nearest suitable clinic after illness or isolation.
