The excitement and enthusiasm in Y4 is contagious! All children in Y4 are taking part in a Fitness Challenge during this half term. This is a collaborative event ran across many schools in South Tyneside and is organised by Inspired spaces, Culture and Leisure and ICT in schools.
Each class are working as a team to complete fitness challenges. Every child has been given an ‘accelerometer’. This is a pedometer that measures their movement over the day. Measurements will only be taken Monday – Friday, the accelerometer should be worn every day from waking until going to bed, it will be taken home on an evening and brought back the next day. (Measurements will be not taken on a weekend.) The individual results will be recorded and then a class average will be submitted each day, this is the score that will be entered for the competition.
During the six weeks there will be many other challenges that the class will complete together for points. These are activities that explore many cross curricular topics including design technology, history, geography and science.

We are always proud of how well our children work together across the year groups. As a large school, Mortimer Primary encourages our older children to help younger children when they can.

109 boxes have been collected by the regional organisers who were very appreciative and wish to express their thanks to all concerned.
Y6 had a fantastic day at Northumbria University. They were there to learn all about student life and explore their campus.
Working in small teams the children started the day with a university rep to play ice-breaker games. They then completed a number of activities including dodgeball in their multi million pound sports complex, detective games and bridge building activities and finally rounded off the day with a fun monopoly style game/hunt around the campus.
The children returned back to school enthusiastic about their day and buzzing with questions about their future.
Nursery had a fantastic day at the farm yesterday.

We have recently been developing our outdoor working area in the center of our school. On Wednesday Fun Club helped to plant our new herb garden.
