Reception went on a walk to the Readhead Park to find out about Autumn and look at seasonal changes. They talked about road safety when walking there. They looked at different types of trees and how leaves change colour.
Thank you to Mark Gibson, a land developer for South Tyneside Council, for taking the time to come and support our Lego Team this week.
The children are taking part in a global competition called : First Lego League. One of the many tasks they have to complete is to create a plan for something in their local community which could change, improve and support their town.
Mark, a land developer currently working on the Holborn Development in South Shields, talked to the children about his role on this project; the ideas for the land in the future and how ideas like these are created, planned and implemented. The children thoroughly enjoyed his visit and learnt a lot from his sound advice.

During Book Week (week commencing 21st October), we will be hosting our very first book swap event. We would like the KS2 children to have a look at home to see if they have any books they no longer read. For every book your child brings in to school, they will receive a token which they can then ‘spend’ on another book in the book swap. Books should be in a good condition and appropriate for your child’s year group. Children can bring in their books any day up until Tuesday 22nd October. We hope this will be a fantastic opportunity for your children to restock their bookshelves with some new and exciting reading material.
14 lucky Year 5 children had the opportunity to attend Bring It On’s Future Engineers Exhibition at the Beacon of Light. There were dozens of companies there, showcasing real-life engineering. Children participated in many activities from building structures out of spaghetti and marshmallows to racing cars to coding! A very inspiring day, showing children the importance of STEM in the everyday world and how it is an exciting option for them in the future.
Well done to our Girls’ Football team who kicked off the season this week with a tournament at Boldon Comprehensive this week. They had a flurry of great results and we are very excited to see their progress throughout the year.
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6 Pupils 1 October 2019
Admission to Secondary School in September 2020
May I remind you that the closing date for returning your application form for your child to transfer into Secondary School next year is Thursday 31 October 2019 at 4.30pm.
The easiest way to apply for your preferred school(s) is online by logging onto the Council web site at www.southtyneside.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
If you apply online, you will be notified on Monday 2 March 2020 our ‘offer day’ via your e-mail account.
Please be reminded that you must make a note of the email address that you use when applying as this will be the email address that will be used to send notification of your school offer.
Parents are also reminded that if they change address following the submission of an application form that they must notify us of this change in writing either by email to [email protected] or by post to the School Admissions Team, Town Hall and Civic Offices, South Shields, NE33 2RL. Change of addresses must reach us by Monday 6 January 2020. If you do not provide us with a change of address by this date, your new address will not be taken into account when allocating places.
If you have not applied online, you will receive a letter which is sent in the second class post on offer day.
If you do not have access to a computer you can obtain a hard copy of the application form by contacting the School Admissions Team on telephone numbers 0191 424 7767 or 0191 424 7706.
Failure to return or returning your application form late will reduce the chance of your child gaining a place at your preferred school.
Please be reminded, it is your responsibility to ensure your application form is completed and received by the deadline date of Thursday 31 October 2019 at 4.30pm.
This is a generic message to all parents so if you have already applied for your child’s school place please ignore this letter.
Yours sincerely
Christine Henderson
