January Reading Champion
Very well done to all of our Key Stage 2 ‘Reading Champions’ who were nominated by their class teachers this month for demonstrating exceptional effort in reading. Congratulations to Eleanor in 3KM who won our Reading Champion’s prize draw and is taking home a £10 book voucher. We hope you enjoy spending your well-deserved prize.
Winter Reading Challenge
Congratulations to Ella in 3KM who entered our winter reading challenge. All Key Stage 2 children who returned their special-edition reading records were placed into a prize draw to win a copy of Philip Reeve’s new book, ‘Pugs of the Frozen North’. Happy reading, Ella! We hope you love your new book.
Years 2, 3 and 4 also had amazing parties. Here are a few pictures of their days.
This Advent, Year Six have been contributing to a ‘reverse Advent calendar’. Each day, children have been donating food and toiletries to charity, to help those less fortunate than themselves. The charity we have chosen to give our donations to is STARCH (South Tyneside Asylum Seeker and Refugee Church Help). Year Six also met a representative from the charity who was incredibly grateful for our contributions. We hope our donations will be a huge help to those in need this Christmas.
Year Six would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to the Co-op for their very kind donation of oranges. They were used to make beautiful Christingles which the children thoroughly enjoyed making.
Our fabulous Korean Club made this video for their friends in Korea.
Traditions and celebrations are very different in their country to ours so we wanted to share with them how we at Mortimer celebrate at this time of year in school.
Year 5 children have made links with our reception children and have created Nativity stories with dedications to each child. Both the younger and older children enjoy this project and it helps to build brilliant links between our children.
Our Key Stage 2 year groups held beautiful carol concerts this year at Westoe Methodist Church. The beautiful strong singers, clear readers and majestic tableau actors certainly left the audience feeling the Christmas spirit.
Here are a few photos from both sets of concerts.
