Sports Round Up!

16th November 2019A Stelling
A lot has been happening over the first half term, highlights include:
Judo
Destination Judo delivered sessions for every class in the school during week commencing 30th September. This event continues to prove to be very popular with all of our children.
Football
Our children (both boys and girls) play in five teams in total and are doing very well in their respective leagues. As usual their behaviour has been exemplary.
Tag Rugby
Mortimer entered three teams in the Rugby competition held at Temple Park in October. Our children placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Our A and B teams have qualified to play in the Finals Day in February.
Cricket
Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 have received coaching in partnership with South Shields Cricket club. The school continues to have a very good relationship with the club which aids our highly successful performance in this sport.
Cross Country
Mortimer entered a Year 5 team this year which saw 600+ runners competing at Temple Park in November. Our team did extremely well with a silver win in the boys event and with one of our girls placing first in her race. Well done children!
School Sport Organising Crew
Four of our children have received training in how to assist the delivery of school sport in our school. They will all be working closely with our Young Sport Leaders and assisting the continued successful Change 4 Life programme in school.
Basketball
Year 5 took part in the Hoops for Health Basketball Roadshow held in October. The package includes coaching, competitions and activities that encourage participation in basketball and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
The above highlights the range of sporting activities/events that our children regularly participate in over the time they are with us.

End of Book Week: Book Assembly with Waterstones

25th October 2019A Stelling
To conclude what has been a fantastic Book Week, we were treated to a very special visit from Jonny, who works at Waterstones. Some of our children met Jonny last term when he helped us to choose new books for our Key Stage Two library. Jonny delivered two exciting assemblies to our children and introduced them to some new books through music and drama. The children found it incredibly fun to see stories being brought to life in such an entertaining way. Jonny extended an invitation to all the children to come and say ‘hello’ next time they are visiting Waterstones in Newcastle.
Our pupils and staff had a fantastic final day dressing in their favourite book character. Thank you for supporting our book week, here are a few pictures from today’s fun.
