Big Schools’ Bird Watch

24th January 2020A Stelling

We thought we would incorporate our tree party with a spot of bird watching this week. Mrs Mackay’s maths group have taken part in the Big Schools’ BirdWatch for the RSPB and when we had finished twitching we decided to have our tree party. The children chatted about the types of trees in our local park and enjoyed eating their snacks. We also discussed the importance of ensuring our rubbish went in the bin and not into the environment. The data was brought back to school where we will log it with the RSPB and also use it do complete some statistics work on.

Woodland Trust Green Tree Award – Going for Gold!

22nd January 2020A Stelling

Our school has worked so hard and are currently sitting on 12 points and a silver award. One of the activities we have been involved in is a discussion on lowering the school’s carbon emissions. School Council have proposed ideas such as ensuring lights are switched off, not leaving chargers on in school unnecessarily and also requesting that parents and carers switch off their engines while they are waiting in the school car park.

Many parents sit with their engines running while they are waiting for their children to leave school. We would like to kindly ask that you consider switching off your engine to help us reduce the amount of carbon we produce which is kinder to our environment.

Mrs Stelling’s class and Mrs Shaw’s class both thought this session was excellent!

Mrs Shearer’s class are very excited for their visit next week.

Extreme Reading Challenge

15th January 2020A Stelling
This term, we are hosting a challenge for our Key Stage 2 challenge called ‘Extreme Reading 2020’. We would like children to get a photo of themselves reading their books in unusual and out-of-the-ordinary places. An example could be up a climbing frame or on a trampoline (children have been asked to be mindful of being safe and to check with an adult first).  The more creative – the better! We would love for families to get involved as well so please feel free to join in. Children can bring in a hard copy of their photographs (not digital please) throughout the course of the term and give them to Mrs Douglas. All of the pictures will be added to what we hope will be a fantastic display of our children reading in a whole host of weird and wonderful places.
Thank you for your support.
Here are a few examples to help with ideas!
