Y6 Outdoor Education Week at Mortimer Primary School

By A Stelling26th March 2017

Check out some of our Y6 children in action during activity week. We had great fun doing a wide variety of activities including orienteering at Cornthwaite Park, rock climbing, athletics, bowling, problem solving and swimming. We even made time for extra football, netball, cricket, trampolining, circuit training, athletics and much much more!

Thurston Update

By A Stelling22nd March 2017

Some of our Y6 children are currently on a residential trip to Thurston Outdoor Education Centre. Just to update all parents and carers that they have had a ‘little snow’ but everyone is having an amazing time and are safe and well!

The weather hasn’t dampened spirits and activities have been adapted accordingly to suit the weather.

By A Stelling16th March 2017

As part of an event for the Mayor’s Charity, our choir were invited to participate in a concert at Temple Park Leisure Centre.

As always, our choir performed beautifully and were pitch perfect.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all who supported the school at this event.

A Roman Invasion

By A Stelling16th March 2017

Year 3 recently spent a fabulous day learning about life in Roman times. They discovered unusual facts about Roman medicine and surgery and tried some typical Roman food  – not to everyone’s taste.

They are now looking forward to their trip to Segedunum on April 5th.

Y4 Viking Day

By A Stelling13th February 2017

The Vikings truly came to life for our Y4 children on Friday when they were visited by two ‘real’ Vikings for the day.

They were taught how to make real Viking style food, played games, had hands on experience with Viking artefacts and much, much more.

The children were invited to dress for the occasion and in school they had made shields and broaches ready for the day.

A great day was had by all!

Christmas Jumper Day/ Christmas Assembly

By A Ogilvie16th December 2016

Our children and staff looked very festive this morning as they came together for the final assembly of 2016.

It was a special occasion for one of our members of staff, who is sadly retiring today too. Children from each year group presented Mr McGuigan with cards. He has been teaching at Mortimer Primary School for 28 years and will be very much missed from our teaching staff.

By A Ogilvie14th December 2016

Recently, some of our Y6 children visited the Open Zone @ The Word and sampled some of the technology available to enhance our computing curriculum.

The message of Christmas

By A Ogilvie13th December 2016

As mentioned in an earlier post, all of our Y5 children have been creating Christmas books retelling the story of the Nativity for reception children, which can be kept as a  special keepsake.

This project takes part over a number of weeks and involves the children meeting each other, learning a little about each other and spending time sharing stories. It is a lovely link between some of our older and younger children and is enjoyed by all.

We have also been so pleased with the feedback from parents, here are just a few of the comments we have received.

“The book created for Finely is lovely – read it tonight and he loves it. It’s a great idea.”

“I absolutely love the book Theo brought home tonight, which had been written by one of the older children! It made me have a little tear. Theo is so happy with it and will treasure it forever. I absolutely love the idea of the older children sharing work and also reading to reception children.”
