Urgent: COVID19 Positive Case Yr4

Please collect your child ASAP from the school main entrance.

A child has tested positive.

Unfortunately, a year 4 child has tested positive for COVID19 using a lateral flow test. The child is now awaiting results of a PCR to confirm. Following guidelines, we need to ask all pupils to isolate until we can confirm the PCR test result. All pupils are classed as close contact

Children should isolate today and tomorrow (Thursday 1st July), by which time we should be able to update you all and advise further.

We will update you as soon as we have any new information.

Thank you for your support

9th June Update

9th June 2021Mr Bennett

9.6.21

We hope you made the best of the nice weather during half term, whilst fully appreciating the difficulties for our year 2 families.

The year is quickly disappearing and children will soon be receiving reports and finding out who their next teacher will be! Before then, there is still lots going on…

Just a quick update…

  1. School Photos
  2. Sun protection
  3. Climate Change Week
  4. Library Books
  5. Face masks on site

  1. School Photos

Phototronics will be coming into school Thursday 10th June (Tomorrow)

Each child will have an individual photo taken, unfortunately there will be no sibling photographs this year due to current circumstances.  Also there will only be 1 group photo for the Year 6 leavers.

  1. Sun Protection

We are experiencing lots of warm sunny weather at present. Sun hats in school are very much welcomed as we attempt to enjoy the nice weather. Sun cream should be applied before coming to school.

  1. Climate Change Week

We will be taking part in Climate Change Week of Action the w/c June 28th. We would like to promote the reduction of plastic pollution by creating a display in school using plastic bottle tops. Please do not go out and buy bottles but can you keep any bottle tops that you use and send them into school. Please do not bring the actual bottles in: recycle these as you normally would.

4.Help us win £5000 of library books!

National Book Tokens are hosting a competition for one very lucky school to win £5000 of library books. We need your help to be in with the best chance of winning. If you would like to nominate us, please follow the link below and enter your details. If yours is the winning entry, you will also win £100 of book tokens for yourself. The more nominations we receive, the better our chances of winning.

Help us spread the word and get as many entries as possible.

  1. Face masks

Thanks to everyone who continues to wear a face mask whilst dropping off and picking up their children. Whilst not mandatory, it does add protection with lots of adults in close proximity.

Thank you as always for your support.

Year 2 – South Tyneside Public Health – Update 4.6.21

3rd June 2021Mr Bennett
Mortimer Primary School
Excellence for all
Year 2 COVID19 Update – 4.6.21
Apologies for the late communication.

We have been working throughout the last 48 hours to clarify the situation created by South Tyneside Council’s Public Health Team request for PCR tests and the subsequent raised questions.

Again we must stress that this is not a direction from the school and we do not require any results from any COVID19 tests at this time.

Any questions or concerns regarding the information shared should be directed, via email, to the Public Health Team at [email protected]

They have attempted to clarify the following:

  • Individuals who have been in contact with someone who’s tested positive can now access a free PCR test at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.
  • Your child does not need to have symptoms to access this free test, simply request a test as your child has been identified as a close contact of a confirmed case.
  • A free PCR test can be accessed using the link above if your child or anyone in the household starts to display symptoms, and you will be advised following a positive result of a new isolation period.
  • Any child who has completed their 10 day period of isolation and not displaying symptoms can return to school.
  • The advice to ask all close contacts to get tested is being given via NHS Test and Trace as well as local public health teams to prevent further onward transmission and detection of asymptomatic cases (those not displaying symptoms).

Children in Year 2 should return on Tuesday 8th June as originally stated. This has not changed from our original communication.

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.

Below is the original update.

Dear Parent/carers,

Year 2 pupils currently self-isolating

Your child has recently been asked to self-isolate after a positive case of Covid-19 was identified at Mortimer Primary School.

South Tyneside Council thank you for adhering to this important public health action to prevent transmission both within the school and wider community.

Individuals who have been in contact with someone who’s tested positive can now access a free PCR test at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.

South Tyneside Council’s Public Health Team and PHE are working to detect further cases of COVID, limit onward spread and reduce the impact it may have on local communities.

There is a change in policy regarding returning to school or work and the Health Protection Agency is now asking that all close contacts get a PCR test near the end of their isolation period despite not showing any symptoms.

South Tyneside Council’s Public Health Team and PHE are now advising that your child takes a PCR test prior to the end of their period of self-isolation.

This additional testing will ensure reductions in any possible transmission within the school and reassure you and your child. If a negative test is recorded, then your child will be able to return to school when their period of self-isolation is complete.

This highly precautionary approach will allow detection of any additional cases within the wider community and reduce possible transmission.

If you have any further queries, please contact your own GP, South Tyneside Public Health or Public Health England. As a school, Mortimer Primary are unable to answer individual queries related to this change.
