Christmas Update

Christmas Update – 3.12.21
Dear all,

Just to provide a further update regarding Christmas performances/nativities at Mortimer.

Our decision still stands to keep our performances in-house without parents. This was not taken lightly and we fully understand that this is upsetting. We believe this is the right course of action for our school, for the safety of all due to the restrictions our building imposes. We cannot comment or compare what we are doing with that of other schools.

The walk-around will go ahead as we can greatly increase the ventilation of the building and apply social distancing. Parents/carers are free to choose if they come to the walk around, but all decorations/crafts will come home with your child at the end of term.

The hall represents a much greater challenge, where, considering the number of pupils in school, is very small and we would be unable to create the same level of ventilation or create sufficient space to distance.

Please note, the performances are not cancelled. They will be recorded and freely shared with all parents.

If you do not wish for your child to be on video then please let us know, else we will use your permissions that we have on file and include your child.

On a more positive note, we hope to offer a special festive finish on Friday 17th December which we are sure all parents will enjoy. We hope to share details of this early next week.

The follow events will take place:

Christmas Performances & Activities

Christmas Performances & Activities – 01.12.21
Dear all,

After much thought, we have decided to run our nativities/carol concerts without parents this year. We feel that the safety of everyone (staff, pupils and parents) would be compromised with live performances. We want to avoid the Government making last minute decisions and then being left cancelling performances. We know this is disappointing and we would have loved parents to see all the festive shows in person. However, we are in talks with an experienced videographer to capture all of our performances and then share these with parents without cost.

All performances will go ahead without an adult audience but will be recorded.

We will still be going ahead with the Christmas Walk Around sessions for parents, but we will ask all adults to wear masks, social distance and take a LFT test prior to coming into school. Classrooms and staff will not be available.

Christmas parties will still go ahead and further details will follow for these. However, if your child will be going home for lunch on the day of their party and will not require a lunch, then please don’t book for their party day.

The Year 3 & 4 nativity will still take place, but without parents. We will record the show straight after school on Monday 13th – further details will follow.

Please see the attached plan.

Thank you for your continuing support

Warn & Inform Y1 – 1.12.21
Dear Parents,

We have been advised that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within Year 1 from 1KR Miss Reid’s class. NHS test and trace have been in contact with individuals who have been identified as a close contact to let them know if they are legally required to self-isolate, and to provide further advice.

The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) or tests positive for COVID-19

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of:

  • new continuous cough and/or
  • high temperature and/or
  • a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

If your child does develop symptoms, they should get a PCR test and remain at home at least until the result is known. Get a free PCR test to check if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). if positive, the child should isolate until at least 10 days after their symptoms appeared.

If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.

If your child has a positive test result but does not have symptoms they should stay at home and self-isolate for 10 days from the date the positive test was taken. This isolation period will be extended if they go on to develop symptoms by counting 10 full days from the day following their symptom onset

Instructions for people who live in the same household as someone with COVID-19

From 16 August, you will not be required to self-isolate if you are a contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and any of the following apply:

  • you are fully vaccinated (with an MHRA approved COVID-19 vaccine in the UK, and at least 14 days have passed since you received the vaccine.
  • you are below the age of 18 years 6 months
  • you have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
  • you are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons

NHS Test and Trace will contact you to let you know that you have been identified as a contact and check whether you are legally required to self-isolate. Even if you do not have symptoms, you will be advised to have a PCR test as soon as possible.

Even if you are vaccinated, you can still be infected with COVID-19 and pass it on to others. If you are identified as a contact of someone with COVID-19 but you are not required to self-isolate, you can help protect others by

  • limiting close contact with other people outside your household, especially in enclosed spaces
  • wearing a face covering in enclosed spaces and where you are unable to maintain social distancing
  • limiting contact with anyone who is clinically extremely vulnerable
  • taking part in regular LFD testing

You should follow this advice while the person in your household with COVID-19 is self-isolating. Those who are clinically extremely vulnerable should be supported to minimise their contact with other people in the household during this period, regardless of whether others have symptoms or not.

You may be eligible for a Test and Trace Support Payment or other help.  Please visit https://www.southtyneside.gov.uk/article/70840/Test-and-Trace-Support-Payment for more details.

Parent Update – 1.12.21
Dear all,
we are hoping to share our Christmas plans with you today, but so other information doesn’t get lost we have included this separately here. Happy 1st of December everyone!
  1. Christmas Lunches
  2. Milk Money
  3. PCR Testing
  4. Parent Pay Availability
  5. Christmas Jumper Day – Save the Children
1. Christmas lunches
Christmas Lunch for pupils in school is next Thursday 9th December.  There will be only 2 options @ Christmas Lunch and a vegetarian option.  Parents should book their meal on ParentPay as usual, but please be aware on this day whatever you choose, your child will be given a Christmas Lunch. If you have booked a vegetarian meal, then they your child will be provided the veggie alternative Christmas lunch.
2. Milk Money
Milk money is live on parent pay.  Parents can now pay for the Spring term.  You have until Friday 7th January to paid, otherwise their child will not get milk.  Free school meal families do not need to do anything as they have automatically been added.
3. PCR Testing

The Local Authority are aware that some people have experienced issues when trying to book a PCR test if they’ve been asked to, due to an outbreak in a school and are asymptomatic. When you arrange a PCR test via the site at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test under the heading Getting a PCR test if you have no symptoms, you opt for the “you’ve been asked to get a test by a local council” bullet. Please see highlighted bullet-point below. This will ensure that you can then go on and book a test.

Getting a PCR test if you have no symptoms

You can also use this service if:

  • you’ve been in contact with someone who’s tested positive
  • you’ve been asked to get a test by a local council or someone from NHS Test and Trace
  • a GP or other health professional has asked you to get a test
  • you’re taking part in a government pilot project
  • you’ve been asked to get a test to confirm a positive result
  • you’ve received an unclear result and were told to get a second test
  • you need to get a test for someone you live with who has symptoms
  • you’re in the National Tactical Response Group
4. Parent Pay Availability

Parent Pay are making some planned changes to ParentPay on Monday 6th December. As a result users will not be able to log in to ParentPay for approximately 8 hours after 18:00. They apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

5. Christmas Jumper Day

We will again be taking part in the Save the Children – Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 10th December. A small donation can be made via Parent Pay. Children can ditch the school jumper for the day and don a festive creation instead! Thanks for your support.
