Some of our Year 2 children took part in the South Tyneside School Games Tennis Festival last week at Temple Park.
This was an opportunity for many of the children to explore new skills with experienced coaches. Great fun was had by all!

This half term Year 6 pupils enjoyed visits from Mrs Hayward and Mr Roberts, who are computing specialist teachers based at The Word.
The pupils developed their digital drawing skills and designed baubles, which will later be made into wooden creations. They also used Scratch to code digital interactive Christmas message cards. Check out some of their work!
The children thoroughly enjoyed their days and can’t wait to continue their learning within their own classes.
A huge thank you for their visit and sharing these special skills with our pupils.

A selection of the boys’ football team, consisting of both Year 5 and 6 boys, represented our school at the Bart Rippon Cup at Temple Park today. Although the boys did not make it through to the finals they played exceptionally well and had a fantastic day.
As always their sportsmanship was brilliant and we were proud to watch them as a team.
Well done gentlemen!
Well done to our Year 5 and 6 Girls’ Football Teams, who competed recently in their first tournament of this academic year.
We have two mixed ability teams, who took part in the South Tyneside Sports Girls’ League. They will face the challenge of two more tournaments this year to fight for the league champion position.
As ever, our girls gave a valiant performance and came away with some impressive results.
We were very proud of their conduct and even received praise of how fantastic their sportsmanship and their manners were from other schools.
Well done ladies!
Next games are scheduled for February.
On Tuesday 27th September, a number of our Y5/6 children represented our school at Temple Park in this season’s South Tyneside Schools’ Cross Country Competition.
Our pupils braved the elements and put in a sterling performance. Well done to all!
Last academic year our School Council wanted to discuss the renaming of our Key Stage 2 House system. After much discussion and many sensible suggestions they decided that the existing House names should be changed to names of British trees.

KS2 had a fantastic time competing in their Houses on Sports Day. Each class took part in 12 different sporting games amassing points as the morning progressed.
The children in Year 5 and 6 have taken part in two cricket competitions. One was mixed teams and the other was a girls only event. The children were excellent representatives and did very well. The girls did very well coming second in their event.
All of our Year 5 have recently completed an excellent morning learning about basic first aid. This included bandages, placing each other in the recovery position and CPR. The children were then shown how to dissect a lamb’s heart before doing it themselves. The sessions support the statutory requirement that children learn about First Aid through our PSHE programme of study and are delivered through the Tumbles and Grumbles organisation.
