Our girls’ cricket team were runners up in the South Tyneside competition only being beaten by the eventual winners of the county championships. The girls were such a strong team that they were also asked to attend the county competition where they managed to beat other district winners.
The school started the year very well as we were awarded the Chance to Shine Primary School of the Year award. The school has had another extremely successful cricket season. Our A team were South Tyneside champions for the third year running and came fifth in the county finals. The team this year probably fielded the strongest bowling side that have ever represented Mortimer.
Our A and B teams played to the best of their ability over the season. The boys displayed a high standard of sportsmanship and were excellent ambassadors for their school. The A team did especially well winning most of their games and finishing third in their league.
Our four Fun and Fit Champions did a fantastic job this year working with our Year 3 and Year4 children. They played a variety of games on a lunchtime which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
Y4 have had a fantastic week being pirates. Their costumes were amazing and creative, we thank parent’s for their support as ever.
Children even had the chance to fence like true pirates.
Well done to our Y4 children who competed in South Tyneside School’s Sandcastle challenge.
A great day was had by all and our children were, as always, excellent ambassadors for our school.
Thank you to Miss Anderson, who supervised the children and helped them with their design.
Our Y6 children are loving being part of WW2 week this week. From jiving to making Anderson shelters, designing children’s games and now digging for victory in a local allotment.
We are providing real life experiences of what life would be like during the war.
Later this week we will be celebrating VE Day and the children are planning to bake and prepare their own food for the party.
