Class String Orchestra

25th March 2015A Ogilvie

Year 4 pupils in Mrs Shearer’s class have been learning how to play stringed instruments this term and yesterday concluded their studies with a fantastic concert for their friends.

Children were given the opportunity to learn a violin or a cello and have been taught the basic skills to hold, play and perform as an orchestra.

Well done 4PS!

Choir perform at Durham Cathedral

24th March 2015A Ogilvie

Last week some of our choir children were selected to represent Mortimer Primary School  as part of The Durham Cathedral’s Outreach Program. More than 200 pupils from 7 different schools took part in the concert which show cased their work from this term.

As always our children were fantastic ambassadors for the school and we were very proud.

All children in the choir will perform to parents and relatives in a small concert tonight at school.

Year 6 work with author/actor Chris Connaughton

9th March 2015A Ogilvie

This term Year 6 have been learning about the life and work of Charles Darwin. Their work was complemented and reinforced when internationally known author and actor Chris Connaughton came to work with them.

During the morning session they watched him perform a small play about Charles Darwin and then during work shop time he set them challenges to extend their creative writing skills.

There was time for questions and answers in the afternoon and children were able to ask him about his life as an actor and a writer and some of the skills and disciplines needed to do both jobs.

Year 4’s curriculum was truly brought to life last week when a farmer from a working farm came to share his knowledge with the children.

Spelling Bee

9th March 2015A Ogilvie

Eight children from year 5 took park in a spelling bee competition this afternoon. We will have to wait until Friday to find out if our teams have successfully reached the semi finals.

The competition was organised by the team at ICT in schools based at The Open Zone. Children from across the borough will be competing throughout the week.

The children were set challenges, both team and individual, by a quiz master and they used video conferencing to communicate.

We think they were fantastic! Well done to both teams. IMG_0092 video 2
