Spreading the Christmas message

By A Ogilvie16th December 2015

As part of a cross curricular project Y5 have created their own Christmas stories for reception children. Each book is dedicated to an individual child.

The Y5 children shared their finished books with the reception year group this week.

This is a project that has been repeated for many years and we see it as a great link between our older and younger children.

Chance to Shine Primary School of the Year 2015

7th December 2015A Ogilvie

We held a special assembly last week on Wednesday 1st December to celebrate our recent award of Chance to Shine Primary School of the Year 2015. Chance to Shine is a national charity whose mission is to promote cricket throughout schools and communities.

The award recognises the outstanding progress that the school has made since Chance to Shine was introduced in our school in 2008 by Durham Cricket Boards Club and Coach Development Officer Philip Mellons. The school has excellent links with local cricket clubs, takes part in all the local interschool competitions, is played during our House Competitions and is now taught in PE lessons. The award was presented by Philip Mellons and England’s Women’s Team member Danielle Hazell.

Mortimer’s Beading Buddies

By A Ogilvie1st December 2015

A group of Y5 children have had their first Christmas sale of bracelets and made an amazing £171 in sales.

The groups is being run as a small business enterprise. They initially put a bid together and presented to the school governors, they were granted a loan of £200 to get started. This is due for repayment at the end of the year.

The children meet each week with Mrs Smith. They frequently survey the children and decide on appropriate items which they think will be popular and then they hand make the products.

They have shown dedication and determination towards this project and we are very proud of them all.

Graduated Apprentices!

By A Ogilvie25th November 2015

Y6 had a fantastic day at Northumbria University. They were there to learn all about student life and explore their campus.

Working in small teams the children started the day with a university rep to play ice-breaker games. They then completed a number of activities including dodgeball in their multi million pound sports complex, detective games and bridge building activities and finally rounded off the day with a fun monopoly style game/hunt around the campus.

The children returned back to school enthusiastic about their day and buzzing with questions about their future.
