Y6AS Into Orbit

12th September 2018

A brilliant day was had when Y6AS and the Lego Club members visited ICT in Schools at The Word for an ‘out of this world’ experience using the Lego Mindstorm EV3 robots and having an introduction to the 2018/19 First Lego League Competition Challenge. The children were quick to task and highly successful when programing the robots, some even choreographed their robots to dance!

The children were complemented not only for their brilliant team work, problem solving and logical ability but also their impeccable behaviour.

A fantastic first trip for this Y6 class! Well done to all.

Y6 100 Book Challenge!

18th July 2018A Stelling

This year we introduced a new reading challenge for our Y6 children called the ‘100 Book Reading Scheme’. New books were purchased including classics, new modern writers and a wide range of biographical writing and non-fiction books. Children and parents were invited to join  a Class Dojo social media site to share books and reviews and to store points for reading. Each book was worth ten points, books by the same author another five points and pupil own choice books two points.

This reading challenge has been a huge success, comments from children included:

“I didn’t used to read a lot, but I soon realised that a couple of chapters a night helped me to relax before bed.”

“I would easily give up if I thought a book was boring, I have read a huge range of books I would never have touched if they were in the library or in a shop. I love it!”

“I can’t believe I read so many books!”

“It gave me loads of ideas for writing at school: I found loads of new words, characters and picked up on punctuation!”

An overall winner, the person who read the most books, received a twenty pound book voucher for Waterstones, the three top readers from each class who had read the most books also received a ten pound book token and a child from each class who showed enormous effort also received a ten pound book voucher.

Both the staff and the children have really enjoyed this scheme and look forward to rolling it forward with our next Y6 group.

Thank you!

18th July 2018A Stelling

Thank you for all the support we received for our recent Y5/6 production of The Wizard of Oz. We couldn’t do it without the support of parents/carers for costumes, bringing your children to the show, creating our audience and helping your stars learn their lines and songs. It really is appreciated!

We think every single child involved was amazing! Fantastic team work from all our children.

Y4 Ancient Greeks

17th July 2018A Stelling

Y4 had a wonderful Ancient Greek day! The children looked fantastic in their costumes- from the hoplites to the gods and goddesses. They acted out their favourite myths, sampled a variety of traditional Greek food and worked in groups to design and make their own version of The Parthenon. The following day, they competed in The Mortimer Olympic Games, which included sprints, discuss and chariot racing.
