Week 2 Monday : A letter to our pupils from Mrs Cunningham

30th March 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again. I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the sun on Saturday and the snow on Sunday! How funny was that? Those snow flurries would have caused some excitement at school wouldn’t they? You all get very excited when it snows. Some teachers have to close the blinds to keep you all concentrating!

I know lots of things have been cancelled lately for you, such as: going to school, going to birthday parties, going to all your after school clubs and even seeing your friends. So I was thinking of some things that have not been cancelled. Fun is not cancelled. Kindness is not cancelled. Sharing is not cancelled. Manners are not cancelled. Trying your best is not cancelled. Cuddles are not cancelled. All of those wonderful things that make our Mortimer family special.

Have a great Monday.

Mrs Cunningham

A message for the weekend from Mrs Cunningham

27th March 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again. Just a quick message for the weekend. I have absolutely loved seeing what you have been up to. It seems Friday was a day of food and cats! From bacon sandwiches, pancakes and sweet treats (I even spotted a school kitchen), to lots of your adorable cats. Sometimes it’s okay not to do school work, but if mam or dad ask you to, then you should.

I have a busy but nice weekend ahead. My daughter Rachel is coming home from university with lots and lots of washing!

Because I am so proud of all you and your parents, you’ve guessed it, I’m going to give everyone the next two days off!

Have a wonderful weekend. Speak to you on Monday.

Day 5: A letter from Mrs Cunningham to our pupils

27th March 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again. I hope you had a fab Thursday. The weather was lovely today too, so I hope you managed to get a little bit of fresh air and enjoy the sunshine. I heard lots of birds singing this morning. They know that Spring is here.

I have seen so many photos of you all getting up to so much. From exercising in your living rooms, playing football in the garden, doing yoga, dancing and lots more. I have chuckled at some of the photos of your mams and dads doing the exercises with you. I have also seen painting, model making, science experiments and much more. It looks like you are having a great time.

I had a phone call today with lots of other people at the same time, the posh name for that is a conference call. Well, it was with 40 other Head Teachers! Can you imagine 40 Head Teachers all wanting to talk at the same time. It was all about making sure all of you at home and you who come to school are happy. I said you were.

Now, I have learnt something new today. Are any of you asking your mams and dads what you are having for lunch long before it is lunchtime? If you are, you might need to ask a little bit nearer lunchtime. Mr Cunningham was working from home today and he asked me at 10.30, when I was busy on my computer. Eventually, he made me a lovely sandwich. Maybe you could all help with making lunch today?

Keep working hard and also playing and having good fun.

Have a fantastic Friday. Ooh, I usually have a bacon sandwich with Mrs Brown, Miss Kirkley,  Mr Bennett and Mrs Peacock on a Friday. I think I will have one today….with Sam (my cat).

P.S.

Sam

Sam, after a day of doing nothing!

Sam does yoga!

PE Lessons at home

26th March 2020A Stelling

In school we follow a PE scheme of work called Real PE and Real Gym through from reception to Year 6. They have supplied us free access to high quality PE lessons for all of our pupils and their families accessible using the password at the bottom of this post.

Please don’t feel inundated to do everything that we are sending home, these are just suggestions in case you want new ideas.

Have fun!

Real PE at home – online learning resources

Real PE at home includes an online programme which supports families to be active, play and learn together. It includes a programme specifically for children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 with 12 themes, 6 areas, over 250 activities and challenges and 1000s of hours of fun and activity. This programme is also great for family play and fun.

It also includes a programme for children in Key Stage 2, with daily and weekly guidance provided for both programmes (starting from this week) in addition to an option to choose your own themes and activities.

There are so many benefits to being active, not only to our physical wellbeing but also to our emotional and mental health, especially in such testing times for all of us. We hope that the ideas help support you and your family to stay fit and healthy in the coming months. Here are the details to access real PE at home:

Day 4: A message from Mrs Cunningham to our pupils

26th March 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again. I hope you had a wonderful Wednesday. I had a weird Wednesday! Do you want to know what happened? Well…

Mr Bennett and I are taking turns of looking after the school and working from home. So yesterday was my first day of working from home, just like you. So I tried to do what I would usually do at school. At 9 am I went into each room in my house to say “Good morning,” to everyone, but no one was there! Then, at 10.10 am, I went into the hall to do an assembly for… wait for it… my cat! Sam! He looked very confused.

At 10.40am, I went into the toilet to chase out the Year 6 boys who were in there playing Hide and Seek, but there was no one there! At 12 o’clock, I went into my kitchen to remind everyone what they had ordered for lunch and what your parents had chosen for your sandwich fillings, but there was no one there (apart from Sam and he only likes cat food!) At 2.30, I went into the sitting room with Louise (my daughter who is also a teacher and working from home) for a cup of tea. We pretended we were in the staffroom, but no footballs hit the window, so it wasn’t quite the same. At 3.30, I went to the top of my front doorstep to tell those Year 2 children to get down from the trees and out of the bushes while they waited for their brothers and sisters, but no one was in my tree, apart from… yes you’ve guessed it, Sam!

What a funny day!

I hope you are enjoying your days in the house. Keep doing your school work, but remember to have some fun too. Watch a movie, play in the garden, make a den with a bed sheet, play hide and seek (but not in the toilet), and get lots of cuddles.

Have a fab Thursday.

Start 2 Finish: Message from Chris for our families

25th March 2020A Stelling

Hi everyone! I hope you are all safe and well.

Please see below links to our social media, and brand new YouTube channel where I will be posting regular PE skill challenges, as well as some follow along workouts and various other videos.

This is something that I am new to, so please be kind and accept that I’m not a pro at camera work or editing just yet!

There will be content that will help yourselves and school staff with ideas for PE (those that are open now and everyone once we return to the norm)! Plus ideas for parents to engage their kids at home, with very little equipment or space required.

Today’s challenge was a progression of throwing and catching drills, and the previous video was a series of basic jumping actions.

We’re also trying to engage our regular participants and social media followers, by offering a free prize for those that upload their progressions to our challenges with hashtag =  #s2fsportschallange

Thanks for your ongoing support and I hope you all find this useful

Day 3: A letter from Mrs Cunningham for our pupils

25th March 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again. I hope you had a good Tuesday and enjoyed a little bit of blue sky and sunshine.

I have heard that lots of you are tuning into Joe Wicks’ exercises online. I joined in too with some of your teachers in the school hall and Joe was on the big screen. It was hard work, but really good fun.

We tidied the school garden today. You’ll never believe some of the things we found. Lots of tennis balls, a hat, a Barbie doll and…….. wait for it…..a sock! What was a sock doing in our school garden? And how did it get there?

I’m missing you all and looking forward to hearing some of your stories about what you got up to in your house.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Mrs Cunningham
