We are well into the Spring term now and this half term is only 4 weeks and 4 days! I hope you had a lovely half-term and were able to spend some time with your children and families. The PTA held two movie sessions in one night, which was very well attended. Thank you to all who helped. We are still awaiting the final report from OFSTED and will share more news once it is complete.
There are plenty of things going on this half term:
World Book Day – Thursday 7th March.
Once again we will celebrate the joys of reading. Children can dress as a character from a book or come in comfy clothes ready to snuggle up with a good book.
Book swap – After the success last year, we will be holding our book swap again. If parents have any books their children are willing to donate can they send them into school so that we can swap them on World Book Day. Every child will get a ‘new’ book on that day. These should be handed to the class teacher.
Book review – We will be attempting to earn Blue Peter badges for every child from Year 1 to Year 6. Pupils will complete a book review in school and we will then send these off to Blue Peter. We will be sending home the application consent form for parents to fill in and return to school. We hope to have hundreds of Blue Peter badge owners in school! There will be prizes for the best book review in each year group.
British Science Week – 11th – 15th March
The theme this year is Time. Each year group will look at a different scientist (linked to their topic for Spring 2) to study so they can look at how science has developed over time.
Neurodiversity Week 18th – 22nd March
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, and organisations with the opportunity to recognise the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual.
Shakespeare Week – 25th – 29th March
This is being celebrated from 18th-24th March this year but with various other weeks occurring in school, ours will be celebrated 25th-29th March.
The children throughout the school from Nursery to Y6 will study an age-appropriate version of Macbeth. The children will learn who Shakespeare was and will talk about his works. younger children will just look at an aspect of the text such as the witches
Activities will all be carried out in school and will range from art to performance poetry.

What a start to the year our sporting teams have had! Lots of children throughout the school taking part in interschool festivals and tournaments. Here are a few of our sporting days out.

Spring Term 2 looks a busy one!
We will be participating in our first ten-pin bowling competition, swimming finals, football cup tournaments, hockey tournaments, some of our reception children will be taking part in a gymnastic festival at The Urban Factory and a heavy end to the season for all four football teams.
In school Durham Cricket will be continuing their sessions with Years 2 and 3 and Boldon Lawn Tennis will be starting their tution sessions which will continue throughout the summer with a number of year groups.
