School Council

At Mortimer we believe the members of the School Council have a very important role in helping to improve the school. It is seen as an important pupil voice that complements the more formal management structure in the school. Indeed several initiatives and suggestions are firmly embedded as school policy. The new school council for 2018 are hoping to build on and develop this legacy.

Gold School Games Mark

We were absolutely delighted to receive this award. It is in recognition of the huge commitment our school has regarding physical activity and competitive sport. This is very much a whole school effort by our teaching staff and all of our talented children.

First Half Term Sporting Highlights

Our children have taken part in a wide variety of different sporting events and have done extremely well.

Football
Our A team have had a very impressive start to the season winning all three of their games. The team have scored twenty goals in total which is excellent!
Our B team have played two games so far winning one and losing the other.
Our girls have also made a promising start to their season.
Rugby
Our Year 5 children have all recently had rugby coaching which they thoroughly enjoyed. The coaches certainly did not waste their time as in the Y5/6 tag rugby competition held at Harton Technology College on Friday 19th October, Mortimer finished first, third and fourth. This is a tremendous achievement as there were over twenty teams present on the day.
Judo
Every child from Y1-6 had the opportunity to take part in Judo taster sessions. these were thoroughly enjoyed by the children and we hope we will be able to offer judo to our children again next year.
Cross Country
Over six hundred children from South Tyneside gathered together at Temple Park on Thursday 1st November to take part in this event. Several of our children were placed very highly in the four races Mortimer entered. Our Year 5 boys’ team combined score placed them as the best school on the day. Congratulations to all of the children who took part!

Artyfacts: The Time Capsule

All KS2 children received a true treat today when theatre company, Artyfacts, visited our school and performed a special WW1 themed play.

This play introduced children to the topic and will be used as a foundation to a special Literacy week for Year 6 next year which is in connection to Remembrance Day and 100 years since the end of the Great War.

Book Week 2018

Thank you to everyone who has supported Book Week 2018. The children have had a fantastic week reading a wide variety of books, creating beautiful worked linked to their stories, Y6 had a visit from the author Antony Wooten and much, much more!

The children really enjoyed their day today dressed as their favourite book characters.

Reception 2018

It’s been a busy seven weeks but our reception children are well and truly settled into their new classes. Here are a few pictures of their first few days captured at the start of the term.

Y6 RAP

Y6 had a very informative morning at the Fire Station this morning when they received micro-workshops to help prevent accidents in their home and social life.

They received workshops from the RNLI, Northern Gas, Fire Safety, School Nurses (Drug and Alcohol Awareness), NEXUS and train safety and staying safe when out and about at night in a dark environment.

The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the morning’s activities.

 

Harvest

Thank you for all the contributions to our Harvest Festival Celebration. The children thoroughly enjoyed the assemblies presented by Father John Miller.

We thank all who sent in food or gave a money donation. We will report on our next newsletter how much was raised.

Girls’ Football

Well done to our two girl football teams who played their first matches last week. They were fantastic representatives for the school and played well for their first outings as a team.
