Y6 Beamish 2019

4th July 2019A Stelling

Y6 had an amazing day at Beamish to complement their topic about World War Two. They experienced life on the farm during the war, they were treat like evacuees and completed cooking, home guard drills and black out preparations.

As always, our children were complemented on their excellent manners and behavior throughout the day. We would like to say thank you to the parents and relatives for dressing their children for the occasion.

On Wednesday, 3rd July birds of prey experts came to visit year 4. They brought six birds with them, five owls and a falcon. We were told all sorts of interesting facts about the birds, including the fact that Florence Nightingale used to carry a Little Owl in her pocket! The children had the opportunity not just to handle the birds, but also to fly them!

The team recently played in a competition held at South Shields Cricket Club. An unprecedented forty teams entered. Teams were played in several groups. Mortimer A, B and C teams were all group winners. The team that went through to the county was decided on runs scored only. Unfortunately our teams didn’t quite secure enough runs which saw St Bedes victorious with Mortimer A coming second.
