We are very proud of our Young Mathematicians, who finished in the top six in the region, after round two of the National Young Mathematicians Award.
Year 5 have created and donated hampers for young adults living in South Tyneside, who are receiving support from a local charity, The Key Project. This morning they delivered their hampers to the main office and had a first hand look at some of the work that the charity do for young people in South Tyneside.

This week the science club discussed what it would be like to be an astronaut. We watched Tim Peake make a cup of coffee and drinking it out of a special sachet and we watched an American astronaut make a peanut butter and honey wrap. We found out that bread can not be used in Space as the crumbs from a slice of bread would float around due to zero gravity!! We then tried some space food. On the whole the strawberries were not the favourite but our science clubbers thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate ice-cream!
We have recently been working with Newcastle Eagles. The programme we are involved in consists of coaching, tournaments and a roadshow for our Year 5 and Year 6 children. The boys and girls in Year 5 have been thoroughly enjoying the sessions that have taken place.
The A team had two convincing wins on he 14th November. The results were 9-0 against Westoe Crown and 7-2 against Ashley Primary. The boys remain undefeated in their league.
The B team were unlucky not to have scored in their game against Simonside and found Westoe Crown tough opposition on the 8th November.
The A team girls had an excellent couple of games winning both of their matches 4-0. The B team managed a draw in both of their fixtures.
Our children competed in heat 1 of 3, there were 10 schools in their heat and 26 altogether competing in round 1 at the Sunderland centre.
There are over 120 centres across the UK and over 4000 schools entering the competition. We should hear by Monday the 19th whether we are 1 of the 5 through to round 2 at Sunderland.
The first 2 rounds take place at Explore Learning.
We were very proud of our four representatives from Mortimer Primary, who were excellent ambassadors for the school.
Our Y6 children this term are enjoying learning about clay and are creating hedgehogs. Here is Y6AS modelling their creations, they will be placed in a kiln to dry and then painted and glazed before they make their way home.
Mortimer Primary School commemorated Armistice Day by taking part in a service of Remembrance at West Park and our house captains laid a wreath on behalf of our school. All of our staff and pupils observed a minutes silence at school.
