The team recently played in a competition held at South Shields Cricket Club. An unprecedented forty teams entered. Teams were played in several groups. Mortimer A, B and C teams were all group winners. The team that went through to the county was decided on runs scored only. Unfortunately our teams didn’t quite secure enough runs which saw St Bedes victorious with Mortimer A coming second.
Champion of Champions Competition
This competition is only open to South Tyneside School’s football league winners. Our A team being the Snowdon League winners guaranteed us a place. The competition was played at the Academy of Light on Thursday 20th June. Mortimer faced stiff opposition against some very capable teams. However, we managed two wins and a draw against the five other teams present. Well done to the team for a successful season!
Bart Rippon Cup
This was a very popular competition which saw 17 schools across South Tyneside enter. Mortimer won their group finals. This put them through to the semis which we eventually won on penalties. The final saw another nail biting finish with Mortimer emerging the champions with a Golden Goal!
On Monday Mrs Allan’s class were visited by Durham University’s History Outreach officer. John brought objects from our past with him for the children to handle and they enjoyed being ‘Museum Detectives’. They then compared two maps of the local area to see how it had changed from 1889 to 1938. The children rose to the challenge and had a fantastic afternoon.
Some of our Year 4 children took part in LEGO First League competition. The competition celebrated the children’s hard work using STEM: science, technology, engineering and maths. The Mortimer Master Movers brought home the construction and innovation award.
Well done to the team! We think you were out of this world!
RRF had a brilliant time visiting the library this morning and completing lots of fun activities.
On Thursday 6th June all of Year 2 visited Washington Wetland Centre. As part of their Habitats topic in science they took part in three lead activities. They enjoyed pond dipping, a mini beast hunt and a map work session looking at world habitats and adaptions of the creatures living there. They had talks on otters and flamingos. They then had free time to visit the mini beast garden, the duckery, hide and of course the play park. A great time was had by all.
Last week 32 of our fabulous Y6 children had an exciting week full of activities such as canoeing in the Marine Park, rock climbing, problem solving, orienteering, athletics with Start 2 Finish, basketball with the Newcastle Eagles, Football with GS Football Coaching, swimming at Haven Point and these are just a few of the activities that left both the children and the staff exhausted but very happy by Friday tea time.
Our children, as always, were amazing and showed resilience and determination in some challenging activities. Comments were made by all coaches and companies, who provided training, on the behavior, attitude and manners of our pupils. We were very proud as a group of our children and couldn’t have asked for a better week.
Here are just a few of the photos from a brilliant week.
