Year 5 held a cake sale on Friday to raise money for the Australia Appeal. They raised a total of £215.30. Thank you for your generous donations of cakes, biscuits and money.
Year 4 children this term are enjoying sessions with ‘Science Buddies’ to compliment their studies on ‘States of matter’.
During the sessions the children discuss changing states of particles, complete a number of experiments and get to make their own slime to bring home and share with their families at the end of the session.
Mrs Stelling’s class and Mrs Shaw’s class both thought this session was excellent!
Mrs Shearer’s class are very excited for their visit next week.
A huge well done to this week’s TTRockstar of the week Daisy Scudder, for making the most progress in the last week.
NB: Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. This program is shared with all children from Years 3 to Year 6 as an aid to increasing both accuracy and speed with multiplication recall.
Four Year 6 children took part in the regional round of the Explore Learning Maths Award on January 16th 2020, at Explore Learning, Sunderland. The children worked extremely well as a team and represented the school superbly. We should know by January 22nd whether they have made it to the next round.
January Reading Champion
Very well done to all of our Key Stage 2 ‘Reading Champions’ who were nominated by their class teachers this month for demonstrating exceptional effort in reading. Congratulations to Eleanor in 3KM who won our Reading Champion’s prize draw and is taking home a £10 book voucher. We hope you enjoy spending your well-deserved prize.
Winter Reading Challenge
Congratulations to Ella in 3KM who entered our winter reading challenge. All Key Stage 2 children who returned their special-edition reading records were placed into a prize draw to win a copy of Philip Reeve’s new book, ‘Pugs of the Frozen North’. Happy reading, Ella! We hope you love your new book.
Years 2, 3 and 4 also had amazing parties. Here are a few pictures of their days.
This Advent, Year Six have been contributing to a ‘reverse Advent calendar’. Each day, children have been donating food and toiletries to charity, to help those less fortunate than themselves. The charity we have chosen to give our donations to is STARCH (South Tyneside Asylum Seeker and Refugee Church Help). Year Six also met a representative from the charity who was incredibly grateful for our contributions. We hope our donations will be a huge help to those in need this Christmas.
Year Six would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to the Co-op for their very kind donation of oranges. They were used to make beautiful Christingles which the children thoroughly enjoyed making.
Our fabulous Korean Club made this video for their friends in Korea.
Traditions and celebrations are very different in their country to ours so we wanted to share with them how we at Mortimer celebrate at this time of year in school.
